SACK races, gumboot throwing, eating dry weetbix were all part of the challenge for 12 young people in Wellington this week.

The event in front of the New Zealand Stock Exchange on the waterfront is part of a road trip to Dunedin.

Organiser Young Country magazine is on the road to Dunedin for the National Bank Young Farmers contest grand final but has a number of stops and activities on the way.

Chelsea Millar, Young Country brand champion says they want to encourage people into agriculture.

“Young Country wants to inspire young people to get into agriculture,” she says.

Wellington turned out a fantastic day for the challenge with many people turning up to support the local competitors.

“We thought we would do it on the waterfront because a lot of people are in their lunch break and also because it was in front of NZX building,” Chelsea says.

The Challenge involving a three-legged race, hay bale lifting, sack race and eating dry weet-bix.

Sam Stanley and Matthew Crump seemed too strong for the other competitiors and took out the grand title.

The next stop for Young Country is Picton then there are six more stops before hitting Dunedin.
